The weeks just keep flying by! Friday seems to come around so quickly. This week in literacy we have been learning about Barnaby bear and his visit to the seaside. We have shared the story, wrote Barnaby bear a letter about what we like to do at the seaside and shared lots of stories on the carpet about going to the beach.
In maths we have looked at even numbers, the children have been busy with independent activities in the continuous provisions locating odd and even numbers, we have coloured cupcakes and sorted numbers into odd and even. We have continued learning about money, the children are becoming more familiar with the coins and some children can put them in order of value. We have practiced role playing shop keepers and buying things from the shop. We have piggy banks and have to add the correct coins to match the amount. We are really working hard to grasp the concept and will continue to practice money over the next few weeks. If you have any jars of change in your home, you could ask your child to sort it in to different coins, it will help embed their learning and keep them busy for a while!
In guided read this week we shared a story about telling fibs, we talked about what a fib was and why it is important that we always tell the truth. This was continuing on from our story last week, The Boy who Cried Wolf. The children had some really good discussions with their talk partner.
In PSED we have learnt about the importance of sleep, why we need sleep and talked about our bedtime routines. We talked about how we feel when we are tired and how it makes learning difficult. We practiced teddy bear breathing and said this helps to relax our body before bedtime. The children then drew a picture of their own bedrooms.
Next week we are having sports day on Tuesday, unfortunately due to covid-19 restrictions we are unable to invite parents but I will add pictures to showbie. The children have been practicing races and I will try and record a few videos on the day. We have some super-fast children! If you have lost your showbie login please let me know, as I use this regularly to update parents/carers.
Date for diary – outdoor stay and play, teddy bears picnic, Wednesday 7th July, 2pm – 3pm. details on showbie. One parent is welcome to attend; it is weather dependent but it would be lovely if you could make it.
We have had quite a few children off this week due to different reasons, but just for reassurance we have deep cleaned the classroom and all the toys/resources have been cleaned. We are doing our upmost in school to keep it as clean as possible.
Take care, have a lovely weekend.
