Year 1 Blog – 21.05.21

Wow I can’t believe it is Friday already. The children have been working really hard. We started off our week with our old fashioned day in the life of school in the past. The children looked fabulous all dressed up and took to the rules of the day very well. They initially enjoyed sitting at their tables and learning in a very ‘chalk and talk’ way but relished in the fact they could sit on the carpet when Tuesday arrived. Throughout our WOW day the children cooked, gardened, danced and played games. We had a fabulous day and lots of learning took place. I don’t think I would have liked being a teacher from the past as it meant lots of time stood at the front just dictating.

In our literacy this week we have moved on to diaries and the children have talked about their secret diaries they have at home with special pens and padlocks. We have started to learn about the features of diary writing and we will be completing our final ‘hot write’ next week.

In maths this week we have learnt about arrays, doubling and sharing into equal groups. The children have enjoyed using the iPads to record some of their learning.

Next week I will be carrying some maths assessments out due to it being the final week before half term, followed by the children completing their diary ‘hot write’. We will be having our Geography morning on Wednesday and hopefully my Dad will be able to visit us one afternoon next week. Please send in some alternative weather clothing such as woolly hats or wellies ready for our Geography flash back morning on Wednesday.

Well done on all the reading at home. It has made a huge impact in class. The children have loved coming in and ticking their name off to show they have read at home. The children loved receiving their gold certificates today.

Have a lovely weekend
