Year 1 Blog – 30.04.21

This week has yet again flown by with some excellent learning. The children have been working hard to create their own story board based on the story ‘On the way home’. The children have made up actions to retell their story and have developed their knowledge of adjectives by using a thesaurus to find alternative options for their choices of adjectives. The children used a QR code to find the website and then typed their words in well. Myself and Mrs Wright were impressed with their skills in following lots of instructions at once.

This week in maths we have been learning about mass. We have used the scales and the children have worked practically to find the mass of different items from around the room. Next week we will be moving on to capacity.

In our topic work we have been talking about toys old and new. The children enjoyed looking at toys from the past and compared them to toys they have now. They found some of the dolls a little creepy. In the coming weeks we will be learning about schools in the past and we will be having a WOW day on the 13th May to replicate a school day from the past. I will send more information next week regarding possible dress up.

We are currently enjoying a weekly computing session with Mr Lenge. The children are using a coding programme called Hour of Code. The children are learning how to debug and complete programming successfully.

The children are continuing to make good progress with their reading. Please keep reading the ebooks at home as we are hearing them as often as we can in school.

This weekend I am sending home some spellings and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

Have a lovely weekend
