This week in English the children have started some descriptive writing. They have looked at Sully from Monster’s Inc and will after a build-up of lessons describe Shrek’s appearance and personality. This fits nicely with a story we’ve recently read in Guided Reading called ‘The Ugly Five’ by Julia Donaldson as the children have explored lots of relevant vocabulary that they could apply to Shrek. In Guided Reading this week with Miss Leyland the children are reading ‘The Worst Princess’ and similarly there is lots of useful vocabulary which will be relevant to their writing in English.
In Maths, the children have started learning about fractions (my favourite J!). They have been keen and enthusiastic (as always). They have looked at a ½ and a 1/4 this week and will progress to finding 2/4, ¾ and 1/3 of different shapes and amounts.
In Science on Friday last week, the children observed the mole hills on our school field (that affect their football playing L) and carried out some investigations. Even though it was in the middle of a Belthorn snow storm, they trooped on!! They then had to identify the characteristics of a mole from their observations outside.
The children have started their new D and T project involving sewing…
Thanks to those that came along to parents evening. I hope you found some of the resources useful.
Happy weekend, Miss Trafford.
