Year 5 Blog

Year 5 13.12.19

Well one more week and there will be some pretty excited children, and staff to be fair. The children all worked incredibly hard last week with their tests; I was so proud of them and the results they achieved.
This week we have had some nice moments; watching the pantomime at Darwen Vale, watching the play by KS1 and also making cards for a local retirement home. On Friday, it is Christianity day where we will learn about how Christians find guidance in their lives.
Next week we have another busy week; we will sing to the elderly residents on Wednesday and have our Christmas lunches together. I am looking towards to doing some Christmas crafts and activities with the children.
In maths we have looked at division and long multiplication. A very hard topic but the children are showing a good understanding of this new concept. I feel maths is becoming quite a strong point of the class.
In English we have continued our Non Chronological reports, as well as learning about the Christmas Truce in WW1. A truly remarkable moment for humanity which the children have loved learning about. The Sainsbury’s advert from 2017 really brings this event to life. I remember learning about this event at Primary school and it has really stuck in my mind. I hope it will do the same for the children.
In science we have looked at phases of the moon and tried to get an understanding of why the moon changes throughout the month.
We have had a really enjoyable week in school. Thank you so much for your support.
Have a lovely weekend- Mr G
