Well this final week has come and gone. I am elated with the progress in the children’s learning and attitude towards learning. I had my transition meeting with Mr Furness and eagerly talked about each child with such enthusiasm about next year. They are more than ready for the next step in year 6. I am very proud of each and every one of them.
It was sports day on Wednesday which is one of my favourite days of the year. I talked to the children about attitudes and trying their best in each race. I was blown away with their heart and determination in each and every single race. The long distance race really was challenging but the children gritted their teeth and got stuck in. It was really good to see!
We have done some PSHE on growth mind-sets this week. We learnt about Eddie the Eagle who had an unbelievable growth mind-set to success in his sport. We then wrote about examples of people we know and famous people who have not given up and succeeded in their field. The children thought of some brilliant examples, a lot of them using their family members.
We also learnt about the Apollo 11 mission to the moon to mark its 50th Anniversary. We talked about how they may have been feeling and why humans would possible want to go to the moon. A really interesting subject! Oh, we looked at the conspiracy theories and argued whether the USA faked the moon landing. We concluded there was too much evidence suggesting that it did happen indeed.
In Maths we have looked at converting time. We used the laptops to try out a new programme called learning by questions. So far it has been fairly successful.
Well, it’s the last blog from year 5. The children have been absolutely phenomenal and I cannot thank the children enough for their hard work this year.
Enjoy the weekend . Mr G
