Year 5 – 28/6/19

“The sonorous explosion from the vessel echoed and disturbed the once tranquil night.” …. this was one of many amazing sentences produced from class along with another describing the sea as a deathly sea of silence. We have just started a new topic in English which is a favourite of mine, the Titanic. I feel like the children can bring out lots of different skills and knowledge from the children so I thought I’d fit this into my planning. The children have loved it and I was blown away by their current understanding already. We will look at class systems, write descriptions, letters, diary entries and delve more into this disaster that occurred in 1912.

Today we have done some DT/STEM. We have used various tools including wood saws and glue guns to construct photo frames. We will finish them off tomorrow and I will send them home so they can put a photo in of their choice.

In Maths we have looked at reflection and translation. A short topic which we will finish next week and move onto statistics. New mathletics homework will be set accordingly.

In PE we have finished hockey and have moved onto athletics. I set up a huge athletics circuit on the field and the children got to practice different athletics skills; throwing, catching, running and jumping. There was even an archery station which seemed to be a favourite.

We are all really looking forward to the summer fair on Friday. The marque looks sensational, I though the circus had arrived in Belthorn.

Have a fantastic weekend.
