Inclusion

Inclusion at our school

At Belthorn, we believe that every child deserves to feel valued, respected and included. We are committed to creating a safe, welcoming and supportive environment where every child can learn, grow and achieve their full potential.

We recognise that every child is unique, with their own strengths, interests, needs and experiences. We celebrate these differences and work together with children, families and professionals to ensure that all pupils have the opportunity to thrive.

Through inclusive teaching, individualised support and strong relationships with families, we aim to remove barriers to learning, promote wellbeing and ensure that every child feels a true sense of belonging within our school community.

Creating a School Where Everyone Belongs

Inclusion means ensuring that every child feels welcome, accepted and supported, regardless of their abilities, background, circumstances or individual needs.

We strive to create an environment where differences are understood, valued and celebrated. We recognise that children may experience different barriers to learning and that some pupils may require additional support or adjustments to help them access the same opportunities as their peers.

We promote inclusion through our teaching, curriculum, relationships and wider school experiences. This includes adapting learning activities, providing appropriate resources, encouraging positive friendships and ensuring that all children have opportunities to contribute, participate and achieve.

We believe that every child has something valuable to offer. By fostering kindness, respect, understanding and acceptance, we help children develop the skills and attitudes they need to become confident learners and considerate members of our community.

Supporting Children with SEND

At Belthorn, we are committed to ensuring that children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) receive appropriate support to help them access learning, develop independence and achieve their individual potential.

We understand that every child is different and that additional needs can affect learning, communication, physical development, sensory processing, social interaction and emotional wellbeing in different ways. We take time to understand each child’s strengths, needs and experiences so that support can be appropriate and meaningful.

Our approach focuses on identifying barriers to learning, putting suitable strategies in place and reviewing the impact of support over time. Class teachers remain responsible for the learning and progress of all pupils, working alongside the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), teaching assistants, parents and other professionals where appropriate.

Our SEND provision aims to:

  • Identify and respond to children’s additional needs as early as possible.
  • Provide inclusive, high-quality teaching that recognises different learning needs.
  • Adapt learning activities, resources and environments where appropriate.
  • Develop children’s confidence, independence and life skills.
  • Monitor progress and review the effectiveness of support.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, carers and relevant professionals.

We are committed to ensuring that children with SEND are valued members of our school community and have opportunities to participate in school life alongside their peers.
