Supporting Children with SEND
At Belthorn, we are committed to ensuring that children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) receive appropriate support to help them access learning, develop independence and achieve their individual potential.
We understand that every child is different and that additional needs can affect learning, communication, physical development, sensory processing, social interaction and emotional wellbeing in different ways. We take time to understand each child’s strengths, needs and experiences so that support can be appropriate and meaningful.
Our approach focuses on identifying barriers to learning, putting suitable strategies in place and reviewing the impact of support over time. Class teachers remain responsible for the learning and progress of all pupils, working alongside the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), teaching assistants, parents and other professionals where appropriate.
Our SEND provision aims to:
- Identify and respond to children’s additional needs as early as possible.
- Provide inclusive, high-quality teaching that recognises different learning needs.
- Adapt learning activities, resources and environments where appropriate.
- Develop children’s confidence, independence and life skills.
- Monitor progress and review the effectiveness of support.
- Work collaboratively with parents, carers and relevant professionals.
We are committed to ensuring that children with SEND are valued members of our school community and have opportunities to participate in school life alongside their peers.
